When teaching Colonial America and the American Revolution, it’s fun to include a little hands-on learning for George Washington’s 16-Sided Treading Barn.
Washington wanted Colonial America to become the ‘granary to the world,” so he began experimenting with farming techniques and improvements. His 16-sided treading barn was one impressive structure that he had built on his estate.
In the video below, I will explain the two hands-on activities that I use to help students understand the function of the 16-sided barn. You’ll be able to download the slides that I use in the video so that you can use them with your own students!
