So, you’re not jazzed about going back to school in January? I get it! I’m not either! Apart from the usual holiday fun and events, I have enjoyed the opportunity to be home with my two littles. Nearly every day, I have held my (nearly) two year old little guy while he slept for his nap, which allowed me to binge on Netflix a bit. I’ve cherished my “three”nager’s ballerina dances and mermaid dress-up parties. She really does think she could turn into a mermaid at any moment. We’ve gotten into the habit of staying up late and sleeping until 9:30. It is really going to rock their (and my) world when I have to go back to work on Tuesday.
Like I do every year, about halfway through Winter Break, I started to think of things I could do that would keep me at home. However, I always reach the same conclusion… I would miss the classroom too much. As much as it tears me up to leave my little ones, I know they are in good hands with my daycare lady.
If you feel the same way, I recommend making a list of three things you are looking forward to when you get back to work. For me, I will be teaching the American Revolution, one of my very favorite history topics. I am also looking forward to getting back into my planning, grading, recording routine. I’m one of those weirdos that actually likes the paperwork side of teaching. I never take anything home. Check out this post if you’d like to know how I manage that: GO HOME ON TIME! Finally, I really do miss my students. I have an interesting mix of personalities in my classroom this year. There are a few kids that I truly worry about and I want them to come back to school ASAP so that I know they’re okay.
So, no, nothing compares to being home with your sweet babies but you do have some things to look forward to and enjoy. Remember, it’s only 4 months until summer break! We can do this!
Please comment on this post and tell me the three things you are most looking forward to when you return to your classroom!

I’m looking forward to teaching really fun themes like snowmen, winter animals, farm, garden, and ocean!
That sounds really fun! You must teach little ones 🙂
Ive also enjoyed spending time with my two kiddos over break!
I’m looking forward to hearing about their goals for the new year, starting a new novel study with my high reading group and being in a schedule again.
I do love hearing my students’ goals for the year! Thank you for your comment:)
We will be busy reviewing skills we’ve studied, exploring new skills, working towards IEP goals, and starting March my district goes to 4 day weeks. This year has flown by. Love my SMALL district.
Four day weeks? That sounds like a dream! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
I’m looking forward to routine, the possibility of snow days and our musical and study of musicians!
Routine is definitely helpful for the littles! So, that will be a good thing about going back!
I too look forward to seeing my students. This is my last year in the classroom, as I am planning to retire in June. So my return is bittersweet. I look forward to hearing about all of my students’ adventures on break, and how they spent their time off. When we return to school we will be studying energy in the ecosystem, as well as starting to prepare for standardized testing in March. All of this used to be routine, but now that I have come to the ‘end of the line’ so to speak, it is all very unique.
Hi Angie! I’m sure it is bittersweet to return for your last semester! I wish you all the best and a happy retirement!
I am looking forward to getting back into a routine, starting our new novel study( we are going to read Indian in the Cupboard), and creating a figurative languative board with my students.
That’s a great book! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Teaching WW2, seeing my students, and working with my student intern!
That sounds like a lot of fun!
Love this post! Reminds me I am not alone when I am thinking of what jobs I could do to stay home with my little. I am looking forward to seeing my kiddos (5th graders), start our space building block, and continue the road to the revolution!
That’s wonderful! I love teaching the Road to Revolution 🙂
